Research programme “Urban governance of/through innovation”. Evaluation of the Madrid Citizen Laboratories

Project management : PUCA

Partnership : PACTE

Year : 2018-20

In 2017, the PUCA launched a call for research proposals on urban governance of/through innovation. With the PACTE laboratory, we hypothesize that there are not one but (at least) three types of urban innovation regimes: the demonstration regime, the experimentation regime and the transformation regime.

For each of the three regimes identified, we study flagship or symbolic projects located in territorial ideal-types (Grenoble for the demonstration regime, Nantes for the experimentation regime and Madrid for the transformation regime).

In this context, Innovation Cities intervened to analyse and evaluate the impact of the Madrid Citizen Labs. The Citizen Laboratories have set themselves up as places for experimenting with tactical urbanism and spaces for collective reflection around the question of the “urban commons”.
