Conversion of the CEC site into a third place in Istres

The Educational and Cultural Centre (CEC) “Les Heures Claires” was built in the 70s, by the Atelier Montrouge, with a desire for sharing, collective reflection and openness to multidisciplinary collaboration. It is also part of the dynamic development of the industrial zone of Fos-sur-Mer and the massive arrival of workers.

Today, the CEC is home to an “open college”, cultural facilities, a media library, a dance school, around a planted mall ending on a terrace with a belvedere overlooking the Étang de Berre. Based on the idea that the relationship between art, sport and school constituted the ferment of a fairer and more open society, the EQF must today rediscover its utopian dimension and extend what has made the strength of this site, sharing and collaboration, education and creation, while positioning itself in contemporary transitions (digital,  Anthropocene, democracy of doing, commons, etc.)
